“For this reason I kneel before the father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” —Ephesians 3:14-19
Allow yourself to transition with me from this present moment to a fantasy land. Envision a large expanse of elves and faeries forming a defensive stance. Their sparkling armour, fashioned from dragon scales and diamonds, is an impenetrable and gloriously crafted suit that shields them from the attacks of their opposition. Imagine the legions of them acting in perfect synchronization as they deliver blow by blow of attack against the encroaching adversary. They move with sure steps, their eyes aglow with their resilience and calm confidence. Their skill is unmatched, their loyalty a blazing fire and they obey every command of their King with unflinching courage. Blue lightening shoots forth from their weapons to smite the enemy, fighting to reclaim the peace and beauty of this fantasy land: the land of your soul.
Clouds of dazzling light swirl around the elves and faeries on the battle field as a sticky substance oozes from beneath the feet of the unsightly beasts of your enemy. You sit astride a sinewy mare who is white as snow. You are a royal princess and a warrior. At the King’s side, you calculate the ensuing battle and entreat your Father’s wisdom. He listens and hears you and commands the next tactic for the battle force. The guise of elf and faery evaporate, turning into a host of angels with Saint Michael at the forefront, his sword signalling the next charge. The enemy hoard transforms into shadowy demons and you watch as their poisonous lies threaten the light of your once dazzling soul.
Spiritual warfare rages around us daily, much like the imaginary fantasy battle scenes in a book, movie or as I have imagined for you on this page. Fantasy might be fiction, but the spiritual battle for our soul is very real and we need to start taking it seriously. As a daughter of the King, you can call upon the legions of powerful angel armies. Though our flesh may be weak, the army of our spiritual existence is far stronger!
You are not far off from the warrior princess in this fantasy world. Whatever strong royal woman you conjured in your mind, whether simple or extravagant, she is strong, graceful, worthy and beautiful. You are royalty and of such value that the armies of heaven have rallied to fight for your protection and redemption.
Too often we ignore God’s gifts and His counsel, believing ourselves sufficient on our own. But you have in your possession the finest armour, carefully formed with wisdom, strength, discernment, knowledge, understanding, perseverance, tenacity, love and acceptance. Familiarize yourself with the every detail of your beautiful armour, of its superior craftsmanship and of its intricate workings, and you will be unstoppable. Put on the armour of Christ and stand confidently as Satan shies back from this fiery woman who knows her heritage and God’s truth.
There is an army fighting for your soul, learn the battle tactics and don the battle armour. With God’s help and grace, Satan doesn’t stand a chance! Do not be afraid! Be great! Be daring! Be regal! Be a fighter! You are strong, beautiful and brave! God is with you and you will not fall!
Dear Lord, I pray that I may see myself as your beloved, precious and worthy of your promises. Help me to grow in my knowledge of your truths and to walk, with unrelenting confidence, the path to Your heart. Help me to stop judging with my senses and to instead pray and seek morality with the spiritual senses of the soul so that I may more effectively ward off Satan and his devious lies. I am your daughter, a warrior princess, and today I clothe myself with your battle gear. Help me each day to choose you and to guard my soul from all evil. Amen.
